Sambalpur: Sambalpur district police detained four persons on Monday in connection with the alleged gang rape of a 14-year-old girl. The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday.
According to police, the girl attended a cultural programme in a nearby village with her cousins on November 30. The incident was triggered by an altercation between the rape survivor’s brother and the suspects at the venue, which was initially resolved by the programme committee.
The assault allegedly took place around 2am on Sunday when the girl was returning home with her cousin. The suspects reportedly abducted her and took her to a nearby forest where she was gang-raped.
“We have detained four persons based on the family’s complaint,” said Amitav Panda, sub-divisional police officer, Kuchinda.
