NEW DELHI: Senior Congress leader and former Maharashtra chief minister Prithviraj Chavan is trailing by 1,590 votes in the ongoing Karad South Assembly seat race, according to poll officials.
Chavan, who previously held the position of chief minister from November 2010 to September 2014, was vying for a third term in the Maharashtra Assembly from the Karad South constituency.

His electoral journey is being closely watched, as he has held various significant roles throughout his political career, including his tenure in the Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha, and the Maharashtra Legislative Council.
The current election contest pits the ruling Mahayuti alliance, comprising chief minister Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena, the BJP, and the Ajit Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), against the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition, which includes the Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), and the Sharad Pawar-led faction of the NCP.
