Former Junior Engineer Arrested for Disproportionate Assets in Corruption Case | Bhubaneswar News


Koraput: Vigilance sleuths on Tuesday arrested former junior engineer Purna Chandra Choudhry in Rayagada district on charges of amassing disproportionate assets amounting to Rs 1,73,48,417. The case, lodged after he was caught taking bribe of Rs 25,000 from a gaon sathi on Aug 31, led to extensive property searches revealing the illegal assets. The bribe was reportedly sought in return for measuring completed work and facilitating labour payments under MGNREGA. Following his initial arrest, Choudhry was granted bail. After his fresh arrest, he was remanded in judicial custody till Nov 25. Choudhry, who is currently suspended, faces charges along with his spouse under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
