Former J’khand min joins Nitish-led JD(U) in Patna

Patna: Former Jharkhand minister Saryu Roy joined the chief minister Nitish Kumar-led JD(U), in the presence of senior party leaders in the state capital here on Sunday.
JD(U) national working president Sanjay Kumar Jha offered him the party’s membership.
Roy, who shot into fame after defeating the then serving chief minister of Jharkhand, Raghubar Das, from the latter’s home turf Jamshedpur East seat in the 2019 assembly polls, may play a leading role in the JD(U) ahead of the forthcoming assembly polls in the neighbouring state, sources in the JD(U) said.
Before defeating the serving chief minister, Roy had earlier served as a cabinet minister in the Das-led govt in Jharkhand. Roy, a former BJP MLA from Jamshedpur West seat, left the party before the 2019 assembly elections and contested as an Independent against Das from Jamshedpur East seat and defeated the latter.
While sharing the information in a post on X, Jha said, “Roy, a senior leader, and an MLA from Jamshedpur East, joined the party in the presence of senior JD(U) leaders like Bihar minister Ashok Choudhary, who is also the JD(U)’s in-charge for Jharkhand, rural development minister Shrawan Kumar and JD(U) Jharkhand unit chief and Rajya Sabha member Khiru Mahto.”
