Kirit alleges corruption in tenders for hoardings

Mumbai: Kirit Somaiya, a former BJP MP, has alleged malpractices in the tendering process for the four hoardings erected by Ego Media in 2020, including the one that collapsed and claimed 17 lives.
According to Somaiya, the tenders for the hoardings were issued twice, in March and Nov 2020, and both times, it was manipulated. He claimed that out of the seven companies that participated in these tenders, three were fictitious as they all shared the same address of a garage in Goregaon.
Somaiya also alleged that the former GRP chief, Ravindra Sengaonkar, was abruptly removed by the Uddhav Thackeray govt before completing his two-year tenure.Quaiser Khalid was appointed in his place and illegally approved the hoarding size to be 209 x 164 sqft instead of the standard 40 x 40 ft.
Somaiya further claimed that Bhavesh Bhinde paid a kickback of Rs 46 lakh to Quaiser Khalid through Mohammad Arshad Khan. —S Ahmed Ali
