Food Poisoning Outbreak: 3 Women Recover, 2 Critically Ill After Eating Mango Kernel Gruel | Bhubaneswar News

Berhampur: Three out of six women from Mandipanaka village in Kandhamal district, who fell ill after allegedly consuming mango kernel gruel, were discharged after treatment from MKCG Medical College and Hospital here on Thursday evening.
Laboratory test of the samples of mango kernel powder revealed it was unfit for consumption, while one of the water sources in the village was contaminated, sources said.
“Three women have fully recovered and were discharged. Another one, who is undergoing treatment, is under observation. Once her liver report returns to normal, she will be discharged,” said Suchitra Dash, superintendent of the medical college and hospital.
She said six women from the village were admitted to the hospital in a critical condition on Nov 2, after being referred from Bramhanigaon hospital. Two of them, with liver ailments, were referred to the hepatology department at SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack. The other four women were admitted to MKCG, she added.
Condition of the two women undergoing treatment at SCB is stated to be stable. “Both of them suffered multi-organ failure but are gradually improving,” said a doctor.
At least eight women from Mandipanaka under Daringbadi block’s Gadapur panchayat allegedly ate mango kernel gruel along with pakhala on Oct 30.
