Passenger woes mount in city asflooding halts trains to south India

Bhubaneswar: Passengers on Monday faced difficulties due to the sudden cancellation of trains to south Indian states caused by the flooding of railway tracks and stations under the Vijayawada railway division.
At least 14 trains passing through the state were cancelled on Monday. These include the Howrah-Secunderabad Express, Howrah-SMVB Bengaluru Express, Shalimar-Secunderabad Express, Shalimar-Chennai Express, Tata Nagar-Ernakulam Express, Purulia-Tirunelveli Express, Shalimar-Kochuveli train on demand, Howrah-Kanyakumari Express, Santragachi-Tambaram Express, Hatia-Ernakulam Express, Howrah-Mysore Express, SMVB-Howrah Express, Chennai-Shalimar Express, Chennai-Puri Express, and Nanded-Sambalpur Express trains.
Many passengers were stranded at Bhubaneswar railway station as they were not aware of the cancellations.The railway authorities said that they were closely monitoring the situation and would resume services as soon as the tracks were cleared and safe for operation. “Passengers should check the status of their trains before starting their journey to avoid any further inconvenience,” said an ECoR spokesperson.
