First int’l Jagannath festival from Nov 8

Bhubaneswar: The Shree Jagannath Mahotsav Committee on Monday announcing hosting of the first International Sri Jagannath Festival here from Nov 8 to 13.
The international festival is being organised to promote and spread the glory, culture, ethics, and spirituality of Lord Jagannath on a global scale, organisers said. There will be a display of 24 rare forms of Lord Jagannath.It will also feature an exhibition of 56 types of offerings (bhoga), and a spiritual marketplace. A five-day ‘world peace yagna’, based on the Skanda Purana, will be conducted.
There will be exhibitions of books and handicrafts related to Jagannath culture. Saints and devotees from across India are expected to participate. “Spiritual leader Babaji Amritanand Das Maharaj has agreed to deliver discourses on the magnificence and culture of Lord Jagannath for five evenings, based on the Skanda Purana’s account of Sri Purushottam Kshetra,” said committee chairman Jagannath Pradhan.
He said the event will also witness participation of Puri king Dibyasingha Deb, along with the governor, chief minister, deputy CMs, MLAs, administrators and intellectuals. “Artisans like Alok Sahu and Chandan Kumar have been entrusted to design the main entrance, inspired by the Singhadwar and Meghanada Pacheri of the Puri temple,” said working chairman Dilip Srichandan.
