Prayagraj: A comprehensive fire safety and rescue drill was conducted on Wednesday at Uttar Pradesh Rajarshi Tandon Open University (UPRTOU), Prayagraj, in collaboration with the 101 Battalion of the Rapid Action Force (RAF), Shantipuram, Phaphamau. The event aimed to enhance emergency preparedness and equip university staff with the necessary skills to handle fire-related incidents. Under the expert guidance of RAF personnel, university security staff and employees participated in intensive hands-on training. The drill simulated real-life fire emergencies where participants practised extinguishing fires, rescuing trapped individuals, and providing immediate care to burn victims by safely transporting them to medical facilities.A key highlight of the session was the demonstration of an advanced fire extinguishing device, a special fireball. The ball, upon contact with flames, bursts and absorbs the oxygen in the area, effectively putting out the fire. RAF Commandant Manoj Kumar Gautam described the device as a highly effective and modern solution that requires no special training to operate. On this occasion, Vice-Chancellor of the lone open university of the state, Prof Satyakam emphasised that the university, following directives from the Raj Bhavan, already took active measures for the upkeep of fire safety equipment. He added that similar drills will be held over the next month to ensure all employees are well-informed and trained in modern firefighting techniques. He stressed that regular training of security personnel will ensure round-the-clock readiness, which is essential for safeguarding the university’s infrastructure and lives in case of fire emergencies. .
