Koraput: A massive fire broke out at a bus stand in Bissamkatak, under Rayagada district, on Saturday afternoon, destroying at least four private buses. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported. According to sources, the buses, owned by Kiran Kumar Sahu of Rayagada, were parked adjacent to each other at the bus stand. The blaze was first noticed in a bus stationed in the middle, and it quickly spread to the neighbouring vehicles.
“Fire personnel from Muniguda and Bissamkatak rushed to the spot.Two fire tenders were deployed to bring the blaze under control. While two buses were completely gutted, two others suffered extensive damage,” said K V Reddy, tehsildar (Bissamkatak), who had rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation. While the exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined, locals suspect it might have been triggered by lightning in the area during the evening.
