Fire breaks out at commercial bldg in Cuttack, properties worth ₹15 lakh damaged | Bhubaneswar News

Cuttack: A major fire broke out in a multi-storeyed commercial building at Dolamundai area in Cuttack on Tuesday morning, causing damage to properties worth approximately Rs 15 lakh. No casualties were reported in the incident.
The fire, which started around 10:25 AM on the first floor of the building, quickly spread to the godown. Thick plumes of smoke billowing from the structure prompted locals to alert the fire department. “Preliminary investigations suggest an electrical short circuit in the supply unit might have triggered the fire,” said city fire officer Sanjib Behera. “However, a detailed probe is underway to determine the exact cause.”
Three firefighting teams rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control in nearly two hours. The prompt action prevented the fire from spreading to adjacent buildings.
Rajesh Sahu, who owns a shop nearby, while recalling the incident said, “We suddenly saw thick smoke coming out of the showroom. Within minutes, the fire spread and everyone started shouting for help. The fire brigade arrived quickly.”
All staff members, mostly stationed on the ground floor, were evacuated safely. “Our teams managed to contain the fire efficiently, ensuring no loss of life,” Behera added.
The affected building has been cordoned off as officials continue their assessment. Authorities have urged commercial establishments to conduct regular electrical inspections and ensure proper fire safety measures to prevent similar incidents.
