The music composer’s studio and residence are located in the same building.
According to the FIR, a film producer had sent over Rs 40 lakh in cash to Pritam’s studio on Feb 4 in connection with work. Chheda counted the cash and stored it in a trolley bag. Three other employees including Sayal were present in the studio at the time. Later, Chheda went over to Pritam’s residence to take his signatures on some paperwork.
Around 10.30 pm the same day, Chheda went back to the studio but the trolley bag was missing. He checked with one of the employees who claimed that Sayal could have taken the bag to Pritam’s residence. Chheda couldn’t believe this and looked for Sayal everywhere in the studio, but he was nowhere to be found. His cellphone was also off.
Chheda and the other employees started to look for Sayal in the building premises and the neighbourhood, but to no avail. They decided against going to the cops immediately as they believed Sayal might return with the bag. But when there was no sign of him till the next day, Chheda approached the Malad police station where an FIR was registered.
Malad police are making inquiries with employees and checking CCTV footage to look for leads on Sayal.
