FIR against 4 for extorting liquor unit manager

Bhubaneswar: A 52-year-old manager of a liquor unit in Nuapada district has reportedly been threatened and extorted for over Rs 1 lakh by a man and his associates posing as staff from the excise flying squad in Cuttack, police said on Sunday.Nuapada SP Raghavendra Gundala said the manager, Umesh Sahu, who is from Gandabahali village under Sinapali police station limits, filed a complaint on May 16, alleging that four people disguised themselves as members of excise flying squad, entered the liquor farm forcibly and extorted money from him.The accused were identified as Ranjan Kumar Mohanty, Pabitra Mohan Sahu and Trinath Sahu and an associate. The case took place on May 15. Police have filed an FIR in this regard.According to Gundala, “Three police teams went to the main accused’s (Ranjan) home to nab him; he was inside but did not open the gate.”The Nuapada SP added, “Ranjan has six cases of money extortion registered against him at Narla police station in Kalahandi.”
