FINK: India leaves a big impression on everyone

Fin Greenall a.k.a. FINK, is gearing up to return to India after 12 years. With summer incoming in the country, Fin has braced himself for it and shared, “I’ve heard it’s going to be thick and humid. I’ll be rehearsing in a sauna for it! I remember the heat from my last performance in Mumbai. It was crazy hot, but you don’t notice it when you’re on stage.” Excerpts:
‘I’ve missed India and i’m excited to come back’
It has been over a decade since Fin has performed in India but the memories are still fresh in his mind. He admitted that the long gap wasn’t entirely his fault and added, “Covid 19 cost me four years or so, then my career exploded in Europe, and it became nearly impossible to get back.” Despite the busy schedules, Fin has never forgotten his time in India. ‘I loved my adventures there. I can’t believe it’s been 12 years. I’ve missed India. But I’m excited to return now. The timing feels right,’ he said.
‘Indian music has always inspired me’
“I have worked with some amazing Indian musicians, and that was incredibly inspiring. Indian melodies, especially in pop and R&B, are just fascinating. And I’ve always been drawn to Bollywood soundtracks, particularly the old ones, because they have this unique vibe to them,’ Fin said, expressing his admiration for Indian music. He further added, “Indian rhythms and ragas are with me every day. I love how deeply rooted they are in history.”
‘Philosophy and meditation help in my creative process’
Fin’s creative process extends beyond music. Despite being a fan of pop music, he tries to escape the pattern of superficial songs. “I don’t want to just write songs about the sea and sky and love. I want to dig deeper. My inspirations come from philosophy, an intellectually stimulating discipline. Some of the philosophers, especially those who explore sound and music, have blown my mind. Sometimes songwriting is about having a big think and then trying to express it through music,” he explained. Meditation has also significantly shaped his music and helped in both, clearing his mind and focusing on his true feelings.
‘I look forward to reconnecting with the Indian audience’
“We don’t know who’s still out there after Covid 19. That’s one of the reasons we’re coming to India now. We want to see if anyone’s still there and if they’re still passionate about our music. I can’t wait to see all the familiar faces and hopefully a lot of new ones too,” expressed Fin about reconnecting with the Indian audience. “I’m hoping we can come back more often and make India a regular stop on our tours. It’s long overdue,” he added.
