State announces financial aid for UG, PG students

Bhubaneswar: Odisha govt on Friday announced the launch of a new scheme to provide financial assistance to undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) students. It will help students facing financial constraints to continue their higher education.
Announcing this in the assembly on Friday, higher education minister Suryabanshi Suraj said the name of the scheme will be ‘Financial Assistance to UG and PG Students’.
“We are preparing guidelines for the scheme,” Suraj said. He also clarified that there is no budget allocation for NUA O (Nutana Unnata Abhilasha Odisha) scheme launched by the previous govt. The new scheme will replace it very soon, he added.
The state govt is running the Mukhyamantri Medhabi Chhatra Protsahan Yojana, an umbrella scheme, for students continuing their studies in colleges and universities in the state. E-Medhabruti, Vyasakabi Fakir Mohan Bhasabruti, and Gopabandhu Sikhya Sahayata Yojna come under this umbrella scheme.
The NUA O programme was launched last year. Under this, many sports and cultural programmes and competitions were conducted. The BJD govt had announced before polls to provide the NUA-O scholarship to UG and PG students.
The BJD govt had decided to give annual scholarships of Rs 9,000 to male students and Rs 10,000 to girls. SC/ST students and children of construction workers pursuing UG and PG got Rs 1,000 more than general students.
