Berhampur: A man was allegedly stabbed to death by a father-son duo at Jena Sahi, under Berhampur Bada Bazaar police station limits, late on Sunday over the selection of the site to stage Danda Nata, a popular seasonal folk dance, police said.
The deceased was identified as Jagdish Panigrahy (27), a member of the Danda Nata committee in Belagaon, Ganjam district. “Police have arrested the father and son for allegedly killing Panigrahy,” SP (Berhampur) Saravana Vivek M. The accused were identified as Trinath Panigrahy (73) and his son Pradeep (42), also of Belagaon, police said. The knife used to commit the murder has been seized, he said.
A heated argument started between the deceased and Trinath, president of the Danda Nata committee, over the selection of the site for putting up the stage for the folk dance, police said.
During the argument, Jagdish attacked Trinath with a stone slab. He sustained injuries to his head. Trinath then attacked the deceased with a knife. “He was stabbed in his back and neck,” said Baba Saheb Saraf, IIC, Bada Bazaar police station.
Later, the duo took Jagdish to MKCG Medical College and Hospital. During treatment, he succumbed to his injuries, police said. “The case was solved following the arrest of the accused persons,” said Saraf.
