Farmers demand restart of Riga Sugar Mill | Patna News – Times of India
Sitamarhi: Sanyukta Kisan Sangharsh Morcha organised a protest march at Majhaura Bazar in Riga block on Sunday. Led by chairman Paras Nath Singh, a large number of farmers and supporters participated.
Their main demands included the early restart of the Riga Sugar Mill and the payment of arrears to sugar cane farmers, amounting to several hundred crores.According to former employees, the mill, currently under liquidation, is unable to clear these arrears.
Anand Kishore, the Morcha’s north Bihar head, accused politicians and public representatives of deceiving farmers with empty promises. The sugar mill has been non-operational for the past five years, with spirit and ethanol production halted since the prohibition was enforced. One former employee said the mill was burdened with substantial bad loans from financial institutions.
