Farmer shot dead over land dispute in Madhepura | Patna News – Times of India

Patna: A 35-year-old farmer was shot dead allegedly over a land dispute in Puraini police station area of Madhepura district on Wednesday. A police complaint has been filed against a villager, with whom victim Vikas Yadav was embroiled in the dispute.
Police said that Vikas, a resident of the same area, was going to check his wheat crops on his fields, a kilometre away from his home, in the morning, when unidentified criminals chased him and shot him. His elder brother, Shambhu Yadav, took him to Puraini Community Health Centre on a bike, but doctors there declared him dead.
“According to a complaint filed by his brother, Vikas had a land dispute with a villager, Vijay Yadav, over seven cottah of land in Makdampur village, he bought from one Uday Yadav six months ago. Shambhu said that Vijay used to cultivate this land as a tenant, but was not ready to leave it even after Vikas purchased it, as a result he was not able to take its possession,” said Puraini station house officer (SHO) Raghav Sharan.
Accused Uday fled the village after the incident.
The forensic team collected samples, including four empty bullet shells, from the crime scene in a potato field. Vikas was shot thrice in head and once in stomach, said Puraini SHO Sharan.
Puraini police have sent the body to the sadar hospital for an autopsy.
“Raids are being carried out to nab him. Further investigation is on,” said the SHO.
Vikas is survived by three sons and a daughter.
