Bengaluru: Did you spot it? The sea of white at M Chinnaswamy Stadium Saturday wasn’t a glitch in the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) red. Hundreds of Virat Kohli fans turned up in white jerseys and T-shirts, answering a heartfelt fan call to honour his incredible legacy in Test cricket.But how did the fans end up doing this? A user on social media proposed that fans attending the match at the stadium should wear white Test jerseys or T-shirts to honour Kohli’s contributions to Indian Test cricket. This campaign quickly gained traction across social media platforms, leading to widespread participation among fans. The tribute was further supported by street vendors around the stadium selling white Kohli jerseys. Sairam, a vendor selling the jerseys near the stadium, told TOI: “I’ve never sold this many white jerseys in a day! Everyone asked for Kohli 18. It felt like the whole city came together for him. Even the rain didn’t stop my sales.” One white jersey was priced from Rs 600.Rahul Sharma, a techie from Indiranagar, said, “I’ve been to Chinnaswamy Stadium many times, but this was something else. Seeing the stadium go white for Kohli gave me goosebumps. He has given us so much in Tests, it was the least we could do.”Krutuka Rai, a student from Koramangala, said, “It is always fun to do something, and to pay tribute to a person that is an idol to me has been so special to me. I’m glad I could do this, and to do it with so many people, it is truly memorable.”A family of five was spotted wearing white jerseys. Anand Pai, a techie from Whitefield, said: “All of us, my wife and three children, are ardent fans of Kohli and we’ve always enjoyed his Test matches. It’s sad but it is very special to do this (wearing jersey) along with my family.” The fans waited in the stadium praying in vain to the rain god to show mercy.
