Family seeks help to bring back dead migrant worker’s body from Dubai

Berhampur: Family members of a migrant worker from Bhejiput village in Ganjam district’s Khallikote block have sought administrative help to bring back his body from Dubai, where he allegedly died three days ago.
Kamal Kumar Nayak (35), who worked as a security guard in Dubai for the past 18 months, was planning to return home on Mar 3 to celebrate his son’s first birthday. He had never met his 10-month-old son, who was born during his stay abroad.
“We received a phone call from his friend in Dubai on Saturday night informing us about his death. We do not know the exact cause of death or whether a post-mortem was conducted,” said Souri Nayak, the deceased’s father. He appealed to the district administration and local MLA Purna Chandra Sethi for assistance, citing financial constraints.
Responding to the family’s request, a team from the district labour office, Chhatrapur, visited the village on Monday to investigate the matter. “We have recorded statements from family members, and the report will be submitted to the labour commissioner through the district collector for further action,” said district labour officer Barsharani Jena.
The labour office has also promised to help the family secure death-related benefits once necessary documentation is complete. MLA Sethi assured that the govt has already initiated steps to repatriate the body. “We expect the body to reach the village soon,” said Sethi.
