Family donates 22-yr-old’s organs after brain death | Bhubaneswar News

Koraput: In the quiet village of Dukum in Rayagada district‘s Bissam Cuttack block, a family’s selfless decision has turned a tragic loss into a beacon of hope for five families.
Chandrasekhar Nayak, a 22-year-old dedicated to his role as an outsourced staff member at the Muniguda community health centre (CHC), died in an accident. On March 15, while returning home from work, Chandrasekhar’s bike collided with a tree, leaving him with severe head injuries. He was rushed to a local hospital and later transferred to Government Medical College in Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh, where doctors declared him brain dead.
Faced with the overwhelming grief of losing his youngest family member, Chandrasekhar’s father, Krushna Chandra Nayak, along with his two elder sons, requested the doctors to donate his organs so that his life might continue in others.
“My son was a kind and beloved boy. Everyone in the village knew and praised him. I wanted to make his legacy immortal, for which I have donated his organs with the hope that his soul would find peace,” said Nayak, reflecting on his profound act of compassion.
In response to the family’s heartfelt plea, medical authorities arranged for a team of senior doctors from Chennai and Hyderabad to carefully retrieve Chandrasekhar’s kidneys, lungs, and liver. With the support of a “green corridor”, these organs were swiftly transported to hospitals in Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam, where five critically ill patients under transplantations.
Following the organ donation, Chandrasekhar’s mortal remains were returned to his family. As his body arrived in Bissam Cuttack on Wednesday, hundreds of villagers, alongside former law minister Jagannath Saraka and block officials, gathered to honour the young man.
