Cleared – maniChennai: A five-member gang, including a woman, impersonated police officers from the Anti-Narcotics Intelligence Unit (ANIU), kidnapped two delivery agents, and robbed them of their cash and mobile phones in Kodambakkam on Tuesday night. They, however, abandoned the victims and fled near Koyambedu after spotting police.Police said Dinesh, 22, a delivery agent from Kodambakkam, developed a relationship with the woman, identified as Nisha, during a previous delivery visit. On Tuesday, she invited him to her Kodambakkamhouse, where he brought Velu, 20, along.While the three were smoking ganja, the four men landed at the house introducing themselves as cops from ANIU. Claiming to be conducting an anti-drug operation, they forced Dinesh and Velu into a car and drove to a secluded area near Koyambedu.The gang then assaulted the two men and interrogated them about their drug connections. Their ordeal ended when suspicious autorickshaw drivers alerted police officers conducting a vehicle inspection nearby.The gang then abandoned the victims and the car, and fled the scene. Koyambedu police rescued the injured men, and took them to a nearby private hospital for first-aid before bringing them to the station for further inquiry.Police recovered liquor bottles and a knife from the abandoned car. A case has been registered, and efforts are on to identify and apprehend the five-member gang using CCTV footages. MSID:: 120968642 413 |
