Balangir: Konabira village under Komna block witnessed a Rath Yatra Thursday. Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra, and Subhadra were taken out of the temple on separate chariots a day before Kartika Purnima in a huge procession by villagers.
The deities spent a day in a separate temple, watching villagers perform Raslila, before returning to their original temple. Locals call this celebration “Bali Yatra“, which began 27 years ago after the priest reportedly received a divine vision from Lord Jagannath, requesting his presence in the village to witness Raslila.
Although the rituals resemble Ratha Yatra, villagers consider Bali Yatra a unique tradition. This unconventional celebration has become an integral part of Konabira’s cultural heritage, showcasing the region’s devotion and creativity.
