Berhampur: Special vigilance court, Phulbani, on Friday sentenced the former headmaster (in-charge) of Kandra project primary school in Harabhanga panchayat in Boudh district to four years of rigorous imprisonment for misappropriation of over Rs 2 lakh govt money, about six years ago.
Judge Samar Bilash Behera also imposed Rs 10,000 fine on the accused, Tapan Kumar Kanhar. He would undergo an additional six month rigorous imprisonment, if he failed to pay the fine, said V. Ram Dash, the special public prosecutor.
The govt had provided the funds of Rs 9.6 lakh for construction of the school’s new building in 2012-13. But the building work was not started till 2017. After construction of the building, vigilance sleuths found misappropriation of Rs 2,00,948 and registered a case against three persons, including the headmaster.
The court acquitted Saraswat Mallick and Purandar Dehury, both ex-chairmen of school management committee due to lack of evidence, he said.
