Ration shop among 8 bldgs demolished in Jharsuguda

Jharsuguda: The district administration on Thursday demolished eight properties in Bandhbahal area of Jharsuguda as part of an ongoing eviction drive against illegal constructions on government land. The eight properties, consisting of a house, a garage, a meat shop and a ration shop, among others, belonged to one Md Sonu and his family member, both with a criminal background, and the former was arrested two days ago for firing at a man over a previous enmity.
“The eviction drive was carried out as per government order. Till now eight properties of Md Sonu have been demolished and in the coming days, the eviction drive will continue in Lakhanpur tehsil,” the assistant tehsildar in Lakhanpur, Kulamani Dalei, said.
A local resident named Pintu Khamari said, “We welcome the government action against people who have encroached upon government land and are also involved in various other criminal activities and create terror in the locality. But now people can heave a sigh of relief.”
On Thursday, three platoons of police force were deployed during the eviction drive to maintain law and order.
“An eviction drive is going on in Jharsuguda district against illegal construction. On June 16, following Md Sonu’s arrest, police came to know that money from his commercial properties was used for committing crimes and even his family members have more than 30 criminal cases registered against them,” Jharsuguda SP Smit P Parmar said.
Md Sonu is a resident of Samaleipara in Bandhabahal.
