Embezzling: Junior clerk and cop booked for embezzling ₹19.83L in Sundargarh | Bhubaneswar News
Rourkela: Police in Sundargarh district have registered a case against a junior clerk and a constable for allegedly misappropriating over Rs 19 lakh of gram rakhi allowances.
Accused Sandhyarani Mallick and Sanjay Kumar Naik were working in the gram rakhi section of the district police office since 2015 and 2006, respectively. Mallick assumed charge of the section in 2017 and Naik was assisting her in drawing the allowances, according to the FIR lodged by Somnath Jena, DSP, police headquarters, with Town police station on Thursday.
While scrutinising bills, the then drawing and disbursing officer, DSP Manda Hansdah, found some irregularities and urged for an inquiry.Then, the Sundargarh SP ordered Draupadi Das, DSP (crime), to conduct an inquiry.
Das conducted preliminary inquiry for 2022 and found irregularities in drawing of the allowances. But she recommended inquiry from July 2017 to Mar 2023. After getting the report, the state police headquarters directed for a special audit of the period from Jan 1 2017 to Mar 31, 2023. Accordingly, a team conducted the audit and found discrepancies and irregularities in the drawing of the allowances. A three-member committee formed for further enquiry found misappropriation of Rs 19.83 lakh. After they admitted to the crime, departmental proceedings were initiated against the duo.
