Koraput: A herd of eight elephants are roaming around in 20 villages in Rayagada district and damaging agricultural land, crops and solar panels for the past few days, creating panic among the villagers. “Their presence in the forests adjacent to Kalyansinghpur and Bissamkatak blocks has prevented villagers from collecting minor forest produce due to fear,” said Pabitra Naik, a villager from Partibeda.Officials said the situation is being closely monitored and necessary steps will be taken to address the issue. “Our field staff are on high alert and the villagers have been urged not to bother the animals. No untoward incident has occurred so far,” said Sachin Annasahed Ohol, divisional forest officer, Rayagada.
