Elephant tramples couple to death in Kalahandi | Bhubaneswar News



Balangir: A couple was trampled to death by an elephant late on Saturday night at Kadomali village in Kalahandi district. The deceased were identified as Mugan Majhi (56) and Gada Majhi (62).
According to forest department officials, a herd of wild elephants strayed into the village late at night. One of the elephants entered a house. Some family members managed to flee but the couple was unable to escape and were trampled to death. The elephant damaged the house and mutilated the bodies.
After getting information, forest officials along with police arrived at the scene and recovered the bodies, which were sent for post-mortem.
Family members of the deceased have demanded compensation for the loss of lives and property.
Villagers are in panic after the incident and have urged forest officials to protect them from frequent elephant attacks. The forest department has launched an investigation into the incident and deployed staff to monitor elephant movement in the area.
