Elephant: Mysterious Death of Female Elephant Discovered in Kalahandi Orchard | Bhubaneswar News
Balangir: Body of an adult female elephant was found in a mango orchard at Rangadimal village under Narla forest range of Kalahandi (North) division in Kalahandi district on Friday. The cause of death would be ascertained after autopsy, forest department sources said. The animal possibly died on Thursday night. Villagers spotted the carcass on Friday morning and informed forest officials.
Forester Bhabani Naik and his team went to the spot, barricaded the scene and collected samples for investigation. The DFO also probed the incident. “It was an adult female elephant, a member of a herd of four elephants with a tusker, two female and a calf. The herd has been straying into the human habitations in search of food,” said Naik. A local farmer said on Thursday it had seen the herd come from Chhitkel forest and feeding on the crop. tnn
