Elephant: Elephant dies in Chandaka due to herpes virus infection |
Bhubaneswar: A seven-year-old elephant, Mama, died at Kumarkhunti in Chandka wildlife sanctuary on Wednesday evening. The young jumbo died of haemorrhagic shock because of herpes virus infection. “Nature can be cruel. Sad to inform we lost a dear elephant Mama at Kumarkhunti to herpes virus. The virus can cause acute haemorrhagic disease with more than 90 per cent in young elephants,” wrote Susanta Nanda, principal chief conservator forests (wildlife) in X.
