Elephant calf rescued from quarry | Bhubaneswar News

Keonjhar: Forest officials from Mayurbhanj district’s Karanjia division rescued a two-and-a-half-year-old elephant calf late Saturday after it fell into an abandoned quarry in Pokamunda village. The calf, which had been trapped since Friday night, was tranquillized by experts and lifted out using a crane.
The mother elephant was seen marching behind the crane from a distance for nearly two kilometres, closely following the rescue operation. The calf was taken to a forest camp for treatment.
A team of veterinary doctors and wildlife experts is currently taking care to the injured animal.
“Once the calf recovers, steps will be taken to reunite it with its mother and the herd in the forest,” said a forest officer.
