Electricity Supply: Amit Rohidas raises concerns over erratic power supply in Sundargarh village | Bhubaneswar News

Rourkela: Amit Rohidas, who was part of the men’s hockey team that won the bronze medal at the Paris Olympics earlier this month, has drawn the district authorities’ attention to the erratic supply of electricity at his native place in Sundargarh.
Amit is a resident of Saunamara village under Balishnakara block. On Friday, during a felicitation ceremony in his village, Amit urged Sundargarh collector Manoj Satyaban Mahajan to look into the issue.
On Saturday, a team of district administration and Tata Power Western Odisha Distribution Limited (TPWODL) officials went to his village and inspected the area for further action.
Four days ago, Amit returned to Sundargarh from Paris and was felicitated in the village playground by district authorities, but the entire programme was conducted with the help of a generator as power supply was unavailable, which apparently irked Amit and he took up the matter with Mahajan.
During their discussion, Amit highlighted that power supply is not available in his hamlet most of the time and in Tangarbahal and Kelopani villages under Saunamara panchayat. The villagers had even written to the collector, urging him to solve the problem and look into the issue of widening roads and installing streetlights, among others.
Amit also mentioned that he had highlighted the difficulties while speaking to the then collector three years ago, but they were not addressed. Though electricity connection is available in Saunamara, Tangarbahal and Kelopani villages, most of the time, supply gets snapped after rainfall and lightning strikes.
On Saturday, a team of district administration, including Sundargarh additional district magistrate Rabi Narayan Sahoo, and chief development officer of district rural development agency and TPWODL officials visited different areas in his village. The TPWODL officials also inspected the transformer for further action.
“The officials will do a further survey there for carrying out the required work,” Sahoo said.
