Electricity Bill Payment: App for electricity bill payment in villages launched |
Bhubaneswar: To make electricity bill payment easy and reduce pendency of bills in panchayats, the govt on Tuesday launched a portal and an app called GCMS.The govt has collaborated with Tata Power to develop the web portal and the app — Govt Consumer Management System — which has been integrated with the ‘e-Gram Swaraj’ online platform.
Using the app and portal, panchayat executive officers can easily access electricity bills, get them approved, and take steps to pay them within a day.
A statement from Tata Power read that across the state, annual expenditure on electricity bills for all gram panchayats is approximately Rs 240 to Rs 250 crore “The main objectives of this application are to simplify the payment of electricity bills while maintaining transparency and accountability,” the statement read.
It added that the company, gram panchayats and the govt can come together on a single platform for resolution of bill-related complaints.

Current sarpanch Jenifer de Oliveria called for a vote, and the majority supported the panchayats position. Araujo advised waiting for the court’s decision due to the land’s status as khazan land.
