Berhampur: Ganjam police on Monday arrested three electricians for negligence after 18 children suffered injuries due to an electric shock at Phasiguda village under Digapahandi police station limits on Sunday morning. The incident took place while the children, aged between 8 and 13, were playing on a stage where a play had been staged. Two adults who tried to rescue the children also sustained injuries The arrested trio was identified as Rabindra Kumar Sahu (30) of Bendalia, Sibaram Behera (41) of G Nuagaon and Bijay Kumar Roula (23) of Dura — all of whom worked for a privately operated light and sound system group.
“A case was registered against the trio based on a complaint lodged by one Dillip Kumar Sethi of Phasiguda,” additional SP (Berhampur) Ramesh Chandra Sethi said.Police are investigating if any other persons were involved in the incident. The children had climbed onto the stage after it started raining and they came in contact with a live wire. Anil Kumar Patra, junior engineer at Tata Power Southern Odisha Distribution Limited (TPSODL) also lodged a separate police complaint on Monday.
