Keonjhar: Panic spread among villagers in Sadar range under Keonjhar forest division after a 60-year-old woman was killed in an elephant attack on Monday. The deceased was identified as Sunaphula Pradhan.The incident occurred at 6:30 am in Kusumita when she was going to a nearby orchard to collect mangoes. A tusker suddenly appeared on the scene, caught her and thrashed her on the ground.She suffered a severe head injury and was admitted to the Keonjhar district headquarters hospital in critical condition , where Sunaphula died. After receiving information, Palasapanga beat forest officials and Sadar police reached the spot and conducted an investigation. Police sent the body for autopsy after registering an unnatural death case. The body was handed over to the family after autopsy.Divisional forest officer (Keonjhar), Dhanaraj H D, said, “Compensation will be paid as per govt rules. The elephant squad always makes local people aware about the movement of elephants. People should be more careful while going outside in the morning and evening.”
