Patna: An elderly man was arrested in Jamui district on Sunday for killing his 60-year-old wife over a suspicion of her illicit relationship with her neighbour. The elderly couple had a heated argument late Saturday evening, after which the woman went outside for defecation but she didn’t return home. Her body was found later by the family members early on Sunday morning.Further investigation is going on, police said.The incident occurred at Basaiya village in Sikandra police station area of Jamui. The deceased was identified as Rajkumari Devi, wife of Brahmadeo Choudhary (65), said Sikandra station house officer (SHO), Lal Bahadur Singh“The deceased’s daughter-in-law informed the police that her father-in-law, Brahmadeo, suspected her mother-in-law of having an illicit relationship with a man from the neighbourhood. This often led to arguments between the husband and wife. On Saturday evening, when Rajkumari went outside for defecation, the accused seized the opportunity and attacked her with a sharp weapon,” said the SHO.He further said that when Rajkumari did not return by late night, the family began searching for her. After an extensive search, her body was found in a field. Upon receiving the information, the police from Sikandra station arrived at the village and sent the body for an autopsy.“A raid was carried out at all the possible hideouts of the accused in the village. He was arrested and he admitted to committing the crime. The police also recovered a sickle used in the murder from the crime spot,” the SHO added.The elderly couple is survived by four sons and an equal number of daughters. All the sons work in other states and were not present at home during the time of the incident.
