Elderly man dies of diarrhoea in Keonjhar | Bhubaneswar News

Keonjhar: A diarrhoea outbreak has gripped three villages in Keonjhar’s Bauripada gram panchayat, claiming one life and hospitalising at least 10 others. The affected villages are Mukuna, Bauripada and Sahadapur under Keonjhar Sadar block.
Gopal Dehuri (65), a resident of Mukuna village, succumbed at the district headquarters hospital on Tuesday. Five patients were admitted to the DHH, while others received treatment at the Padmapur community health centre.
“One patient died at the DHH, and two are under treatment. The situation is under control,” said Dr Binod Bihari Mishra, additional district chief medical officer, Keonjhar.
Locals attributed the outbreak to contaminated water from the Aradei river, which they are forced to use for drinking due to acute water shortage in the area. Medical teams from both hospitals have visited the affected villages to assess the situation.
Villagers have urged authorities to address the drinking water crisis to prevent further spread of the disease. Exact cause of the outbreak is still under investigation.
