Eight feared drowned in Ganga in Patna & Bhojpur | Patna News – Times of India
Patna/Ara: At least eight people, including four from a same family, feared drowned in separate incidents on the occasion of Ganga Dussehra in Patna and Bhojpur districts on Sunday.
A holy dip in the Ganga river turned tragic for a family after four persons feared drowned and 13 others were rescued when the boat they were travelling in capsized in the Barh area of Patna.
In Bhojpur, four young friends from Bara Kharauni village, who had gone to take a holy dip in the Ganga river at Shivpur ghat, feared drowned on Sunday.
Those feared drowned in Barh were identified as retired NHAI officer Avdhesh Kumar (60), his brother-in-law Hardev Prasad (65), Nitish Kumar (30) and Manju Devi (45). The Bhojpur victims were identified as Ramji Gond (18), Nishu Sharma (18), Sonu Kumar Yadav (18), and Deepu Kumar (21). In Barh, local divers rescued Avdhesh’s nephew Alok Kumar, a technician at Steel Authority of India Limited, IISCO Steel Plant, Asansol. He said of the 17 people on the boat, eight were from his family.
Barh subdivisional police officer (SDPO) Aparajit Lohan said the incident occurred around 9am near Umanath Ganga ghat when an overloaded boat carrying 17 people overturned midway and sank in the river.
