Education Minister: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan Requests CM to Revise University Amendment Act |

Bhubaneswar: Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Tuesday wrote to chief minister Mohan Majhi requesting him to make necessary revisions in the Odisha University (Amendment) Act 2020 as it has not only resulted in conflicts with the rules and regulations on University Grant Commission (UGC), but has also abolished the autonomy of institutions.
“The changes in the act are necessary to bring back the trust of educationists, protect the autonomy of educational institutes, and to maintain high standard in education,” Pradhan said, adding that the previous BJD govt had made extensive changes to the original act of 1989 with political motives to undermine the autonomy of educational institutions in the state.
The minister further added that the UGC guidelines are prepared after extensive deliberations and discussions with an aim to maintain academic standards, giving due respect to the autonomy of educational institutes. “Any amendment in the state act that disregards the rules and regulations of UGC will affect the quality of education and self-respect of teachers,” Pradhan said.
