Patna: Separate teams of Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday conducted searches at multiple premises in Delhi, state’s Madhubani district and capital Patna as part of a money laundering investigation against Sanjeev Hans, principal secretary of energy department and CMD of Bihar State Power Holding Company Limited (BSPHCL), and former Jhanjharpur MLA Gulab Yadav.
“Separate teams of ED officials reached the office of 1997-batch IAS officer Hans at Vidyut Bhawan, the headquarters of the BSPHCL and his official residence at electricity board colony in Shashtrinagar area here early on Tuesday morning and began searches,” an official in know of the matter told TOI.
Similarly, other teams of the ED officials searched the premises of former RJD MLA Yadav in Madhubani and his MLC wife Ambika Yadav’s official residence in the state capital. They also conducted searches on the premises of Hans and Yadav in Delhi, sources in the federal agency said.
The sources added the ED conducted searches under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) in a probe linked to corruption and extortion charges.
In January 2023, Hans and Yadav had come to limelight after Patna police registered an FIR against them, following an order of a Danapur court, for allegedly raping and blackmailing a woman, besides threatening to kill her.
After hearing the petition by the survivor’s lawyer, the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate of Danapur civil court had ordered the Patna police to register a case against the senior IAS officer and former Jhanjharpur MLA in connection with the alleged gang rape of the woman at gunpoint at a Delhi hotel in 2021.
