Duo assaults cop during drunk driving check, held

Bengaluru: A man and his female friend, who allegedly attacked a traffic police inspector near Singayyanapalya Metro station on Saturday night during a drink and drive check, have been arrested.
The accused are Rakesh Kumar, 35, and Baisakhi, 30, both bank employees. They lived with their families in B Narayanapura.
They had attended a party and were returning home when they were stopped by a team led by Mahadevapura traffic police inspector Anitha Kumari around midnight. Rakesh was subjected to an alcometer test and his reading came around 133 mg/100 ml following which his bike was seized. Anitha asked the rider to get a release order from the court after paying the fine.
But, Rakesh asked police to release his vehicle immediately. When they refused, Baisakhi allegedly abused the inspector for almost 30 minutes. When the inspector didn’t pay attention to her, she went and hit her on the right hand and tried to kick her. The inspector, in self defence, pushed Baisakhi.
Anitha and her team took the duo to Mahadevapura police station and lodged a complaint. A case was registered for assault on a public servant and obstructing a public servant by discharging duties. A medical examination revealed that both had consumed alcohol.
