MUMBAI: A social worker lodged a police complaint against the driver of a garbage dumper for running over and killing a stray dog at Borivali, and later dumping his carcass at a landfill in Kanjurmarg. Borivali Police have registered an FIR under provisions of Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita for ‘mischief by killing an animal’ and ‘causing disappearance of evidence of offence.’
The complainant, Lata Kulkarni, is a part of the animal welfare organisation, Breathe Foundation.On Sunday, she was feeding animals, when Kulkarni received a phone call from an acquaintance. He informed her that a stray dog had been run over on Sodawala Lane at Borivali around 7 am.
Kulkarni rushed to the spot around 11 am and made inquiries. She found out that a garbage dumper had run over a dog and carried the carcass away in the vehicle. She informed the Borivali Police and the driver of the vehicle, Deepak Dandekar, 46, was traced. On being questioned, Dandekar told the police that he had dumped the carcass at the Kanjurmarg dumping ground.
