Driver with criminal record flees with builder’s 25 lakh cash, held | Mumbai News – The Times of India

Mumbai: Kherwadi police have arrested a driver for allegedly stealing Rs 25 lakh cash from his employer, builder Naved Siddhiqui. The accused, Gurudev Patil (42), has at least four cases registered against him at Dharavi and Kherwadi police stations.
On Feb 20, when Siddhiqui visited the Mhada office in Bandra (E), he kept the cash in the back seat of the car and asked Patil to safeguard it. “After concluding his work at the Mhada office, when Siddhiqui stepped out, he found both Patil and his car missing. His attempts to call Patil also proved futile. Later, an acquaintance told him that his car was at Kherwadi.”
After registering an FIR based on Siddhiqui’s complaint, Kherwadi police caught Patil at Thane station and recovered Rs 23.7 lakh of the cash, said senior police inspector Kavidas Jambhale. A Bandra court has placed him in police custody.
Siddhiqui had hired Patil around 10 months ago without conducting a proper verification, said police. tnn
