Double murder rocks village in Bargarh

Sambalpur: Two men were allegedly killed in Bargarh district’s Baghpali village on Thursday. Police have identified the deceased as Madhusadan ‘Magha’ Bhue (52) and Tarani Bag (35), both locals.
Police investigation revealed that Tarani, who had been on the run for a year in an attempt to murder case, returned to the village on Wednesday. After he attended a wedding that night, Tarani visited a local liquor shop around 2:30 pm on Thursday, where he encountered Magha, a liquor trader.
“A verbal altercation at the liquor shop escalated when both men moved to Magha’s house,” said Padarbinda Tripathy, sub-divisional police officer, Bargarh. “Tarani attacked Magha with a steel rod, killing him on the spot. When Magha’s wife tried to intervene, she sustained head injuries.”
Upon learning about his father’s murder, Magha’s son, Nepal (27), allegedly killed Tarani in retaliation and fled the scene.
Magha’s wife is currently receiving treatment.
“We have recovered a bloodstained steel rod and bamboo from the crime scene,” Tripathy added. “While the exact cause of the initial conflict remains unclear, preliminary investigation suggests there was no previous enmity between the two deceased.”
A forensic team has collected evidence from the scene, and both bodies have been sent for post-mortem. Police have registered a case and further investigation is underway.
IG (northern range), Himanshu Lal, told TOI, “The accused son was arrested on Friday evening. Both the deceased were drinking at the liquor shop when they had an argument which led to the murders.”
