Don’t implement Waqf Act in Telangana: TMREIS chief

Hyderabad: Telangana Minorities Residential Educational Institutions Society (TMREIS) chairman Faheem Qureshi on Sunday said it was chief minister A Revanth Reddy who was among the first leaders in the country to oppose the new waqf law when it was proposed as a bill.
“We will request CM Revanth Reddy not to implement the new Waqf Act-2025 in Telangana. We thank Rahul Gandhi for taking a strong stand against the Waqf Act-2025. We also thank all the MPs from various religions and communities for voting against the Waqf Bill in the parliament, proving the secular credentials of Congress and its INDIA alliance partners,” Faheem Qureshi said.
Thousands of people took to the streets in Hyderabad on Sunday, protesting against the Waqf (Amendment) Act-2025. Cutting across party lines, people from all walks of life reached Nizam College grounds, from where the rally started and reached BR Ambedkar statue at Tank Bund.
In a related development, Congress MLC Amer Ali Khan announced a two-day protest rally from Adilabad to Hyderabad to oppose the controversial Waqf Amendment Act.
Addressing a press conference, Amer Ali Khan said the rally would begin Monday, marking Ambedkar Jayanti, and culminate in Hyderabad the next day. Organised under the banner ‘Jai Bapu, Jai Bhim, Jai Samvidhan’, the rally aims to awaken mass resistance to what he described as a systematic attempt by the central govt to weaken the Muslim community and seize control of waqf institutions.
