Don’t expect relief from heat till Apr 7: Meteorologists | Mumbai News – The Times of India

Mumbai: Even as day temperatures recorded on Thursday by the IMD Santacruz observatory dipped to 34.5 degrees from 36.9 degrees observed a day ago, hot weather conditions are likely to continue in the city for the next few days.
This is because the IMD for April 5, 6, and 7 issued a yellow alert for Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, and Palghar, indicating hot and humid conditions in isolated pockets. Meteorologists said the expected rise in temperatures was due to the influx of dry northerly winds caused by an anticyclone over the Arabian Sea. As the anticyclone develops, winds will move in a clockwise direction, bringing dry northerly winds that will drive up temperatures, they pointed out.
Meanwhile, on Thursday, April 3, the IMD Santacruz observatory recorded day temperatures of 34.5 degrees, which was 1.4 degrees above normal, while the IMD Colaba observatory recorded 33.9 degrees, which was 1.5 degrees above normal. The relative humidity levels were also on the higher side, with the IMD Santacruz and Colaba observatories recording 79% and 78%, respectively. As per the weather bureau inference on Thursday, “There is an upper air cyclonic circulation over southeast Arabian Sea and its neighbourhood, while the trough from Lakshadweep to Konkan has become less marked.” TNN
