Doctors: Government issues show-cause notices to 7 doctors for prolonged absence from duty | Bhubaneswar News
Berhampur: State govt has issued show-cause notices to seven doctors of MKCG Medical College and Hospital for unauthorised absence from work for a long period of time. Of the seven, three were absent for over five years, while the remaining four were absent for 1 to 3 years. The absentees are six assistant professors and one associate professor.
The health department has asked the doctors to submit their responses within a week from the date of issue of notices (on Monday), explaining why action should not be taken against them as per Odisha Service Code rules.
In the past few days, 14 doctors from medical colleges in the state have received similar notices, with half of them belonging to MKCG.
On Monday, during a meeting at the medical college, health minister Mukesh Mahaling was given a list of doctors, who were absent from duty for over a year. Abani Kanta Gaya, president of Manab Adhikar Suraksha Manch, said, “We have demanded action against these doctors, especially when the hospital is facing a severe staff crunch.”
