Diwali: Prayagraj Prepares for a Vibrant Diwali Celebration Amidst Market Rush | Prayagraj News

Prayagraj: In a last-minute rush to make Diwali more special this year, denizens of Sangam city thronged the markets on Wednesday. From electronic items to garments, consumer products, decorative items, artificial flowers, lai and lawa (puffed rice), rangolis, candles, and diyas, various markets of the city buzzed with hectic activities.
All the prominent markets of the city witnessed hectic activities as people came out in large numbers to make purchases for Diwali. Shops in all the markets of the city, including Civil Lines, Katra, Chowk, Telirganj, Sulem Sarai, Muttiganj, Kydganj, Khuldabad, Batasa Mandi, Loknath, etc., remained open and did brisk business.
Among several items being sold in the market include decorative items, artificial flowers, showpieces, and chandeliers. Major markets of the city, including Civil Lines, Katra, Chowk, Telirganj, Sulem Sarai, Muttiganj, Kydganj, etc., witnessed a huge rush. People were busy buying firecrackers, sweets, candles, and earthen pots. The same was the rush for the purchase of electronic items.
“Items such as cellphones, microwave ovens, LCD TVs, refrigerators, handycams, and laptops are in great demand. As expected, we saw a jump in sales,” said Vivek, a salesman at a showroom in Civil Lines. Similarly, roadside shops offering decorative items like artificial flowers, glow shine items, lamps, and decorative jhalar, both of bulbs and flowers, were selling like hot cakes.
However, because of the hectic shopping, almost all the roads of the major markets of the city witnessed traffic jams for several hours. Be it various roads of Chowk, MG Road, and Elgin Road of Civil Lines or the market of Katra, all witnessed traffic moving at a snail’s pace.
