DGP issues directives to cops, directs heightened vigilance during Holi | Bhubaneswar News

Bhubaneswar: DGP Y B Khurania on Wednesday issued directives to all SPs and DCPs, emphasising the need for heightened vigilance during Holi festivities on Saturday. The instructions include strict measures against troublemakers and police stations have received specific orders to exercise extra caution in areas prone to communal tensions.
“We have issued an advisory to the commissionerate police and security forces in all districts. Police stations across the state have been instructed to maintain strict vigilance during the festive period. Officers will conduct regular patrols in their respective jurisdictions to prevent any untoward incidents. Special attention will be given to crowded areas, marketplaces and religious sites,” Khurania said.
The DGP emphasised the importance of quick response teams being prepared to handle any emergency situations. Additional forces will be deployed in areas identified as sensitive or prone to disturbances. Police personnel have been directed to keep a close watch on social media platforms to prevent the spread of rumours or inflammatory content.
“Senior officers will personally monitor the situation in their areas and coordinate with local community leaders to maintain harmony. Rapid response teams will be stationed at strategic locations throughout the celebration period,” Khurania said.
Police have also been instructed to take strict action against anyone found harassing people, especially women and elderly citizens. Special measures will be implemented to prevent drink driving and reckless behaviour on roads.
The DGP urged citizens to cooperate with the law enforcement agencies and celebrate the festival of colours responsibly. “We have advised people to report any suspicious activities or disturbances to their nearest police station immediately. Our force remains committed to ensuring that everyone can enjoy the festival safely and peacefully,” Khurania added.
Bhubaneswar DCP Jagmohan Meena stated that special police teams will patrol to crack the whip on drunkards creating public nuisance. The commissionerate police have also set guidelines for event management organisations hosting Holi celebrations in the city. “We have strictly asked the event managers not to overcrowd venues. They should deploy licenced private security guards. Special care should be taken to ensure the safety of women. Separate arrangements should be made for female revellers and families in groups. Liquor should not be served at the Holi parties,” Meena said.
In Puri, police have made security arrangements for foreign tourists participating in local Holi celebrations. “Though there has been no instance of any misconduct towards any foreigner in living memory, we do not want to leave anything to chance. To prevent drowning incidents, we have asked hoteliers and lifeguards on the beach to keep a watch on swimmers. Tourists should take the assistance of lifeguards while bathing in the sea,” Puri SP Vinit Agrawal said.
