Devotees throng temples on first Somvari

Patna: A large number of devotees, especially women and unmarried girls, thronged Shiva temples to offer prayers across the state capital on the first ‘Somwari’ of Shrawan month.
Since early morning, people were seen making a beeline outside the temples with milk and water in their hands to perform ‘abhishek’ to Lord Shiva. Many of the devotees also observed fast for the whole day after offering prayers to Lord Shiva.
Chants of “Har Har Mahadev” reverberated in the air in all the Shiva temples of the city, including Boring Road crossing, Kankarbagh, Danapur, Ashiananagar, Rajendra Nagar and other areas. Many devotees also offered prayers till late evening. “I have been worshipping Lord Shiva and keeping fast every Monday during the Shrawan month since long. It gives me a sense of satisfaction and strengthens my belief that someone is there to lister to your problems. God always blesses and helps us,” said Kamla, a woman devotee, whose daughter accompanied her to the temple.
People also worshipped Lord Shiva’s favourite Nandi bull. It is said that the ‘puja’ is not complete without offering prayers to ‘Nandi’. “It is strongly believed that if any wish is uttered in Nandi’s ears, it gets fulfilled,” said Ruby.
Septuagenarian Ashok, an ardent devotee of Lord Shiva, said that the God fulfils everyone’s wishes. “A person just needs to be honest and good at heart,” he said. He added that not only women and girls observe fast or do pujas, but all require his blessings to do well in life and move on the right path.
